Microsoft will be turning off the servers which provide it shortly and there is no downloadable file with the patch in it.
Notes
- This affects ONLY Money 2005 users
- If you're in the US you do have the option of using the sunset edition
- If you're in the UK and other countries, then 2005 was the last version available to you and the sunset edition cannot be used as you can't convert between regional versions of Money.
- Microsoft plan to turn the servers off at the end of this month - January 31, 2011
Creation of backup CD
To create the patched CD, see this article. You won't need the CD unless you reinstall. If you think it won't affect you, consider that if you buy a new machine or your hard drive crashes, without it, you will irrevocably lose access to your Money file and there will be no way to get your data back.
Once you've created your backup CD, don't forget to test it (e.g. on another machine) to ensure it works

This post was prophetic. On the day of your post my PC crashed and required a new install of Money 2005. It seems that the servers with the upgrade patch have already been taken down and I cannot get money to open my existing file.
Is there anything I'm missing here or have we really lost 5 years of data?
I tried it on the day of the post, so they were still up and running then. If they've been taken down already it would be a shame. However, you should try a couple of things first:
1. Rename your Money file and reopen the program. It will detect that it can't find the file and suggest you look for it or create a new one. If you create a new one, it might download the patch
2. If the above doesn't work, with the file still renamed, run the program as an administrator - right click the entry in the programs list and select 'run as administrator'. Create a new file and see if it downloads
3. If still no joy, then reinstall Money, ensuring you run as administrator when installing and trying the above.
Once the file has stopped downloading, we're in a bit of a bind. I am thinking of how to get around the problem legally and efficiently at present.
Many thanks Glyn. Tried all that but no joy. Looks like we may be stuffed.
Doubly gutted as creating the backup was on this weekend's to do list.
Hi Mike
I've just installed Money 2005 onto a virtual machine and it prompted me for the update, so it's still there. Getting hold of it for you seems to be the problem.
I'd completely remove Money 2005 and reboot, then try the reinstall again. Check your internet connection (assuming it's okay as you're posting on this article). I don't know which version of Windows you're using, but if it's Vista or Windows 7, you may need to run the install/program in compatibility mode (right click the executable and select properties to do this). Also run the program in admin mode until you get the patch.
Not sure what else to suggest at the moment. If you have access to any other machine, then it would be worth trying that.
And, as soon as you're successful, make the new CD and test it!

Many thanks for the tips Glyn. Still no joy I'm afraid.
The version I have is the Deluxe OEM Edition 14.0.100.805 though I don't know if this makes any difference.
I've put the same problem on Microsoft support forum though not holding much hope at the moment.
Thank you again, wholeheartedly, for trying though.
hi Mike
sorry that you've not had much luck. Now I know it's an OEM version, I must say that i've not had the chance to ever try that. The 805 on the end of the version number indicates an interim build of the software from first release, although I wouldn't have thought that would stop things.
Not much else I can suggest at the moment excepting trying other avenues and perhaps another computer if you have one you can use.
Glyn
Thank you again Glyn - we shall overcome .... eventually. I do have plan B as this is for some charity accounts and another trustee also uses Money, so all not lost yet.
If you would like a largely useless OEM disk please let me know.
Cheers
Mike
Hi Mike
could drop me an email via the link which is at the bottom of this page.

Seems that Microsoft stop the download server before 1/31/2011.
I need absolutely the MS Money 2005 Fr update that I cannot download from the MS site.
Anybody can help me ? I cannot read my accounts anymore ;o(((
When I tried it last night, it was still providing downloads, so please try the suggestions in this posts comments. You may want to temporarily disable your firewall before hand too.
Glyn
Sorry, in the last post I was talking about MS Money 2005 French version. I have already tried to disable my firewall, the problem was the same.
Hi Anonymous.
If you contact me by email using the Contact me link at the bottom of this page, I'll take this offline and try and help

Not sure if posters here got their problems resolved. It seems the solution may be to download and install one of the (relevant) Sunset versions here (http://www.microsoft.com/money/sunset.mspx) and then just open your file in that newly installed Money Plus.
Hi Sergei
that's an option for US users, not those from other countries who do not have that upgrade path (I noted this in the original post).
Thanks for the post though - I am sure a few US readers with Money 2005 may not have realised.
Kind regards
Glyn
Hi Glyn - I have been following post on this site for many years, it is always first port of call for problems with MS Money. However I have a problem. I created a rescue disc as you suggested but foolishly didnt test it. Now I need to reinstall on a windows 7 machine it doesnt work. I have tried to make a fresh disc as i have access to a working copy od money 2005 updated to 1105 path but it still wont load. Question - when reinstall from the rescue disc should the installed copy of money show as version 1105, as it doesnt on my copy leading me to believe i have not created the disc correctly. Any help would be appreaciated.
