Money Plus SP1 Released

Money Plus SP1 was released via smartconnect, on March 24, 2008. This update contains the following fixes:

  • Resolves a conflict with the DEP setting in Windows Vista and in some versions of Windows XP. This conflict caused Money Plus to crash (FAQ Article 512).
  • Money Plus Activation now accepts all characters if Windows is set to use Large Fonts (FAQ Article 533).
  • Activation improvements for firewall and proxy configurations are included.
  • Activation improvements for non-administrator configurations are included.
  • Performance is improved when you work with Money Plus data files that contain many "unaccepted transactions."
  • Other fixes to improve compatibility with Windows Vista are included.

Hi there,

Do you know if there's any way to tell if SP1 was successfully installed afterwards? Specifically, I don't see reference to "SP1" displayed anywhere on the "Help -> About Microsoft Money" menu item.

Thanks!

Hi

there are 2 indicators - the first will be that the program no longer prompts you to install it.

The second, and better indicator is that the version number (on Help->About Money) will change to 17.0.x.1415, where 'x' is a number to indicate the product (Premium, Deluxe etc). On my Premium version, it has changed to 17.0.125.1415.

After being able to update Money 2007 successfully after countless attempts, I bought Money Plus Deluxe and was unhappy to see it also required a software update. My attempts at loading the update for Money Plus have also been unsuccessful. I am very frustrated. I have checked the version number and indeed the update attempts were unsuccessful again. The uploaded files are sitting in the folder "MNYCoreFiles.NEW" but for some reason will not find their way into the program. The same thing happened with Money 2007. You should not have to be a computer wiz to use the software. It is not user friendly. Any ideas?

Try this article - the problem you have seems to be the similar one to Money 2007.

I should have said I am running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 with SP2, not Vista. When trying to update Money 2007 I was in touch with Microsoft support who only referred me to articles on the website, none of which solved the problem. I also tried updating in safe mode as that seemed to work for others, but it did not work either. Microsoft support wanted me to take off my virus software but I shut off the firewall and Microsoft has permission in the software. The files have uploaded onto the computer but they never update the software, which is still version 17.0.120.727.

Hi

okay, a few things to try

a) Turn off any 'compatibility' options that you may have on the msmoney.exe executable

b) create a new administrative account and run Money in that. See if it causes the program to update

c) If you purchased a download copy of Money, make sure you sign into the account you used to purchase the software (MSN/HotMail, Windows Live etc)

d) Try this also (which was posted to the Microsoft Money newsgroup)

1. Sign into your new user profile and make sure it has administrator rights
2. Go to c:\program files\microsoft money and right click on the folder and
clear the read only box attribute (accept the option to apply this to subfolders and files)
3. Re-start the computer and open the sample file
4. Run the update and close money reboot the computer
5. Open one of your money back up files in the new user profile and made sure that it was not asking for the update
6. Switch back to the old profile and open the money program and verify that it does not ask for an update and that Help - About now says you have version 17.x.xxx.1415

As I said initially, you should not have to be a computer wiz to be able to update this thing. My son was over here last week and did create a new user profile to try and update the Money 2007. It did not work. I do not have the capability of figuring that one out. Is there any file in the "MNYCoreFiles.NEW" which have been added to the computer with the update attempt, that can manually be activated to update the file?

None that I know about - I don't know how that works (and whether it is possible to delete it and get the program to redownload the update). I agree it should 'just work' (which it did with me).

I'm not sure what else to suggest, except running the program as administrator (right click on the Money entry in the start menu and click on 'run as administrator').

I'm monitoring this problem at the moment, some others have had the issue. If you drop me your email (send it in a separate comment, and I won't publish it), I can try to help offline.

The uninstall and download of the trial version, update, uninstall, reinstall CD version, uninstall, replace with copy of the updated downloaded version as listed in article 549 worked, now have correct version. Please tell me there will be no more updates for this software. I've spend entirely too much time on this--Steve

Hi Steve - thanks for the feedback. I can't give any promises that there will be any more updates, but I can't see Microsoft releasing any in the short term.

I have money plus 2008; and vista home premium with sp1. On exiting money, the system reports " money has caused an error and will be shut down"; after this the software will download info from the bank, but it will not show up in the register. Have to create a new data (rename/reclassify all those downloaded checks!!!!) and all is well until.... it happens again.

Hi Charles, this could be one for Money support, but you could try to repair the file both before AND after the data download. I don't think it is specific to SP1 though.

If anything appears in the account register with a list of transactions to match/enter, then you can delete the data here - might be something to consider.

Don't forget to create a backup of your file at this point - the start of a repeating error is usually a good incentive to make sure your file is safe somewhere.

Back to the error, at shutdown, the software may be trying to download from the bank and back itself up. Try turning one of these options off (can't remember how offhand, as have no copy of Money to hand), and seeing if either stop the error showing. It'll help narrow down the problem a bit more.

Good luck!

Glyn
